TIRUCHI: Officials of the Tiruchi Corporation took up an encroachment eviction drive along the Singarathope, N.S.B. Road and Theradi Veedhi in the city on Friday.

The drive focussed on removing unauthorised structures such as platforms and shelters put up in front of shops and commercial establishments. Nearly 50 temporary shelters and about 60 platform structures were removed. Many shopkeepers voluntarily removed the structures put up in the front of their shops in the wake of the operation conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner K. Sundaram and Assistant Executive Engineer N. Balaguru.

The eviction drive in the busy commercial centre of the city was conducted amid tight security. Commissioner T.T. Balsamy said the civic body would also initiate follow-up action on the drive to ensure that the encroachments did not come back.
