Representation sent to Collector
Petty shops must be shifted
TIRUCHI: The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations has urged the district administration and the Corporation to take up an extensive encroachment eviction drive in the city, especially to clear the pedestrian pavements.
In a representation to the Collector, M.Sekaran, Convener of the federation, pointed that the Corporation had constructed pedestrian pavements along some of the arterial roads here but most of them had been encroached upon by vendors and commercial establishments.
Welcoming the recent encroachment eviction drive on the NSB Road, he appealed to the civic body and the police to ensure that the hawkers and vendors did not return to occupy the newly built pedestrian pavement along the Teppakulam on the road.
He demanded that the vendors and hawkers occupying vantage position beneath the famous Mainguard Gate also be shifted out.
The petty shops, allotted by the Corporation, in congested areas such as the Mainguard Gate, Heber Road and Bharathidasan Salai, should be shifted.
