Municipal corporation-RWA row sucks parks dry
CHANDIGARH: With the municipal corporation in a hurry to wash its hands of maintenance of neighbourhood parks and resident welfare associations (RWAs) not willing to take over their responsibility, green belts in the city have fallen on bad days. There is an ambiguity over who will replace their broken infrastructure and how accounts will be maintained.
Even as the two sides fail to
reach a consensus, the city residents rue over their neglected state.
"During MC elections, councillors had equipped some parks with fountains
and play equipment. But today, they look abandoned," said Kamaljit of
Sector 48. "I avoid visiting our neighbourhood park after dusk due to
the knee-high grass there," said Ramjot of Sector 22. TOI spoke to MC superintending engineer (B&R) Mukesh Anand and chairman of Federation of Sectors Welfare Association of Chandigarh P C Sanghi on the issue.
