The High Court or Karnataka on Tuesday directed the Karnataka Slum Development Board to shift Jai Bhuvaneshwari slum near the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases and rehabilitate the slum dwellers in a span of three months to Kudlu village near Parappana Agrahara.

B Krishna Bhat had approached the court in the year 2000 seeking clearance of the slum, spread over 2.5 acres with more than 600 families. A Division Bench, in the year 2008 directed clearance of the slum and in March this year the slum dwellers had approached the court challenging the eviction notice issued by the Board. They had contended that the proposed rehabilitation location was about 20 km away from the slum which would affect the livelihood of many families.

A single judge had directed eviction in July 25, 2013. However, a contempt petition was filed alleging that the government had failed to comply with the directions of the court.
