GHMC slaps Rs. 50,000 penalty on builder

After levying Rs. 8 lakh penalty on a builder for pumping out the cellar seepage onto the roads, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), on Thursday, slapped a fine of Rs. 50,000 again on another construction company for the same offence.

The builder, AMR Constructions, owning the property on plot numbers 308 and 309 on Road No. 25, Jubilee Hills, was allegedly letting out water from the building onto the roads, damaging the BT road.

The violation was apparently noticed by Minister K.T. Rama Rao and Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan who were travelling that way on Thursday.

They directed the deputy commissioner concerned to intiate action, who inspected the spot and estimated the damage at Rs. 50,000.

No excavation till monsoon-end: GHMC

To ensure that no untoward incident takes place during monsoon, the GHMC has taken a slew of measures. Since rain is expected in the next 48 hours, the concerned officials have been asked to be on high alert. The civic body has also decided to paste caution notices on dilapidated buildings or weak structures and ask the inmates to vacate the same.

The GHMC has banned excavation activity till the end of monsoon. The officials have been instructed to stop any work related to excavation of cellars and also take precautionary measures like soil strengthening, wherever necessary. It has also been decided to give vacation to schools that are run in weak buildings.

In the case of listed heritage buildings, the civic body has decided to halt all the work.

Monsoon duties have also been assigned to the officials in such a way that the GHMC headquarters remains alert and vigil round the clock.

Waste dumping: six held, tankers seized

The city Corporation’s health wing has apprehended six persons for dumping waste and seized two tankers for trying to dump septage.

The Corporation’s night squad caught them red-handed from Kazhakuttam, Chanthavila, and Kattayikonam wards in the Kazhakuttam zonal limits.

Tanker lorries belonging to Biju and Sreeraj were seized and legal action initiated against them.

Paul Pandian of Kazhakuttam; Sherif of New Opticals, Kazhakuttam; Sivagurunath of Kazhakuttam; Bhadran of Ambadi Textiles, Kazhakuttam; and Ananthu Krishnan of Kazhakuttam were fined as per the Municipal Act for dumping waste in public places.

Health inspector K.C. Asok and junior health inspector Saiju led the squad.
