Temporary bus stand at Bose Maidan to be closed soon

The work on the laying of tar road on one of the platforms on the new bus stand premises has been completed.

The buses to the destinations such as Chennai, Puducherry, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi, following laying of tar, so far departed from the temporary bus stand at Bose Maidan near the old bus stand since the works were launched last year end.

With the completion of the works in one of the platforms meant for the buses proceeding to these destinations, the Bose Maidan temporary bus stand is expected to be closed soon and the buses will depart from the new bus stand as usual.

“The mandatory inspection by a team of senior officials of the Corporation, police, transport department, representatives of the private bus owners’ association took place on Sunday. The team expressed satisfaction at the completion of the work. The buses will be operated from this bay from Wednesday (May 23)”, Corporation sources told The Hindu .

The Corporation launched the project of laying concrete road on the entire new bus stand premises at an outlay of Rs. five crore. Later, based on the suggestion of experts from Anna Universsity, Chennai, the Corporation decided in favour of tar flooring. The new bus stand accounted for 80 bus bays in four platforms.

The tar flooring will enable in keeping the bus stand neat and tidy and also prevent water logging during the monsoon period. The project was undertaken under the Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund. The Corporation sources said that the work on the tar flooring on the second platform will be launched shortly. To enable this, the Corporation will setup a new temporary bus stand at the Jawahar Mill Ground near the Three Roads junction for the buses proceeding towards Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Madurai.

The Corporation authorities inspected the Jawahar Mill ground on Sunday morning.

All the needed facilities such as shelter, drinking water and toilet facilities will be created in the temporary bus stand.
