Stop slaughter of animals on roadsides

A resident of Chengalpatti Street in Ward 56 has petitioned the Corporation Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj asking him to stop wayside slaughtering of animals. Mr. K. Gangadharan, in his petition, said that cattle were slaughtered on the road, and the waste materials were dumped on drainages.

He said that over 2,000 students pursue their education in the school in the area, and they were the most affected. He said that the recent Government Letter No. 24501 dated June 30, 2014 from Meenakshi Rajagopal, Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (Training) and Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Chennai, to all District Collectors called for ensuring proper disposal of solid and liquid wastes by slaughtering houses.

The letter said that places near temples, and public roads were used for slaughtering animals. The letter asked Collectors to prepare a list of all slaughtering places located within village panchayats in order to ensure they got license.
