VARANASI: As many as 53 properties including water bodies, cemeteries and Nazul, have been identified by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) to be made encroachment free following an order by the district administration for the purpose.

Recent demolition of the encroachment at the Tulsipur pond was done in line with this decision.

According to an official in the nazul department at VMC, the local body prepared a list of these 53 properties after researching the revenue records to establish the ownership.

After which the officer in-charge Avinash Kumar began the process measurement to assess the extent of encroachment.

After the properties are made encroachment free, VMC will also put boards bearing its name as the owner at these places.

It is worth mentioning here that the divisional commissioner Chanchal Kumar Tiwari at various occasions during the periodic review meets of the developmental works, had instructed all the district magistrates under the division that all the public properties including water bodies, be identified and made encroachment free.
