VMC razes slum on Gotri Road

VADODARA: The demolition teams of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) razed 206 houses and shanties in Indiranagar on Gotri Road on Friday. The residents of the area had been allocated houses earlier.

VMC sources said the settlement had come up on a plot owned by the VMC. The plot was earmarked for a swimming pool as no construction can take place there due to high tension electricity lines passing above the plot.

The residents of Indiranagar had been given houses in a scheme on Sun Pharma Road around five years ago. While some had shifted there and rented out the houses at Indiranagar, others had continued staying at the locality.

A demand for making a garden in place of a swimming pool has also been made for the space. Councillor from the area Rajesh Ayre reiterated this at the general board meeting of the civic body on Friday.
