VMC razes illegal structures, removes encroachments

VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Thursday conducted an extensive drive in the city to remove encroachments and bring down a portion of a building that was being constructed without permissions.

Demolition teams of the VMC brought down the fifth floor of an apartment being constructed in the Chhipwad area in the walled city. The fifth and sixth floor had been constructed in violation of norms and local councillors had raised the issue of its illegality with the civic body. While the sixth floor was razed by the builder after a notice was issued by the VMC, the fifth floor was not brought down forcing the VMC to take action.

Teams of the civic body also cleared encroachments in the Panigate vegetable market. Several vendors had started using the area around the market and had encroached upon the roads. Officers of the civic body were stormed by the vendors to make representations during the drive, but the drive continued.

On Wednesday, the civic body had demolished a partially constructed temple in the Kalali area of the city. The structure was coming up under the flyover in the locality.
